Will my sample look exactly like the final order
Your sample is an excellent representation of the color, texture, and finish of the tile, but it is important to understand how samples are sized and how tile variation works.
Sample Sizing:
- Standard Swatches: For most large-format tiles, we provide a standard designer size sample swatch of approximately 4x4 inches. This size is designed to give you a clear look at the material’s surface and color without the high cost and waste of shipping full tiles.
- Small Format Tiles: In cases of smaller tiles (like certain mosaics or subway tiles), we will send a full piece whenever practical.
Visual Variation & "Faces": Modern tile production technology allows for high "Visual Variation." To mimic the natural beauty of stone, wood, or marble, collections are designed with several different “faces” or designs.
- The Goal of Variation: This ensures that once installed, your floor has a natural, non-repetitive appearance.
- The Sample: A 4x4 swatch represents only a portion of one "face." Your final order will contain a curated mix of these different patterns to create the intended look.
The Impact of Dye Lots: Tile is fired in kilns at extreme temperatures, and subtle shifts in minerals or heat can create slight color differences between production runs (Dye Lots). While your sample will be a very close representation, your final project order will be pulled from a single, consistent batch to ensure a 100% color match across your entire space. In most cases samples are a different dye lot from the current orders being shipped. If you require a specific dye lot, please notify your sales representative.
Please Note: To get the best sense of a tile's range, we recommend ordering a few samples of the same product. This allows you to see the range of "faces" and color variation you can expect across your entire installation.
